About the Artist - Anthony Smith

Anthony is a self taught artist who has recently expanded his artist's studio "Gallery Anthony" to four times its original space. The new gallery has a much larger viewing area so that the paintings have more space and his working area has expanded to include dedicated areas for the computer, framing, and wrapping and sales.  His wife, Marjorie, who has supported him for many years is now working alongside him. 

Anthony paints on Oriental and handmade papers which lend themselves to a torn edge. This has become a signature of his work which conveys beautifully the sense that you are being given a glimpse into the worlds Anthony creates.  He paints the essence of the scene rather than the actual so that visitors to the gallery feel they can identify the place.  He rarely names his paintings so that the viewer's imagination is not inhibited.

 He has created a fun, informal atmosphere at the gallery and he is always happy to demonstrate or talk about his work and the materials he uses.
